Many SASS shooters complained about the girth and weight, so Ruger made the "new Vaquero" to more closely follow the dimensions of the Colt SAA. The standard ones were much thicker/larger and built like a battleship. I don't know if they still make both, but something to be aware of. There are two types of Vaquero, the standard and the "new Vaquero". The only Colt I have is a JW commemorative and it has a band preventing action cycling. Colt has much more bullshit in their history, but I digress. They were plenty happy filling government contracts. This was a time when Colt didn't give any fucks about customer service, or the consumer market. I recall the rep sitting around fairly embarrassed. Even at their display at the world championship SASS matches, the Colt display guns were horrible. The Uberti will work better out of the box than any Colt SAA that is new. I don't see them being compared to Colts. IMO Rugers are a totally different animal. Everything is being compared to it, for a reason. In other words if someone tells me that a Uberti is just as good as a Colt, I buy the Colt. I can tell you that when I am thinking about buying something I try to buy the thing that everything else is being compared to. As was mentioned, if I wanted a Colt and bought a copy, I would always regret not buying the Colt. I wasn't super into single action revolvers, but just wanted a representative in my collection, I would get the Colt. If it was me, and I was just looking for a single action revolver to round out my collection. And for years, I shot the crap out of them often with heavy loads. I bought the Rugers for several reasons: MINE have adjustable sights, and they are strong as hell. When I bought my single action revolvers, I was looking for shooters. Of course just because you collect guns doesn't mean you don't shoot them, but the value of a Colt in a collection is significantly higher than a reproduction Colt. But, if you are a collector, that's another story. If you are just looking for a gun to shoot, I think the options you list are just as good as the Colt. I think it boils down to what your intended purpose for buying one is. And I have played around and shot a lot of different ones. I own single action revolvers, and have owned others.
